Tena H. Jansen, age 88 of Brownsdale, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 28, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family in Brownsdale. Tena was born to Jacob and Martha (Schipper) Tuinder on October 15, 1931 in Austin, Minnesota. She graduated in 1949 from Austin High School. On October 23, 1949, Tena married Johnnie Jansen at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin. In 1950, the couple moved to Brownsdale, where Tena had various jobs. She was employed at Severtson Corner grocery, Dutch Inn Café, and Great Plains Lumber. Tena was also, a kitchen manager at Echo Lanes Bowling, and a manager of Mill Street apartments. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Brownsdale. Tena belonged to the Ladies Aid, church choir, and was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed bowling, reading, jig saw puzzles, camping and crafts. But, most of all she loved spending time with her family, and especially family reunions. Tena will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Roger (Joni) Jansen from Royalton, MN, Linda (Paul) Irvin from St. Peter, MN, JoAnn (Bob Law) Pahe from Brownsdale, MN, and Marilyn (Jeff) Ryks from Austin, MN; sister, Donna Cole from Austin, MN; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Martha Tuinder; husband, Johnnie Jansen; brother, Jacob Tuinder Jr; nephew, David Tuinder; brother-in-law, Lincoln Cole; and great granddaughter, Felicity.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, Minnesota. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Internment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
