Scott Nathan Williams, age 64, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 5 at Mayo Clinic, surrounded by his family, after an unexpected heart issue. He was born on June 4, 1962, to Nathan and Sheloy (Meikle) Williams.
Scott grew up in Austin, where his first job out of high school was at Echo Lanes bowling alley. He graduated from Austin Senior High School on his 18th birthday.
On August 29, 1989, Scott married the love of his life, Ann Retterath, and together they built a home and a family. They met when Scott was riding by on his bike and Ann, mistaking him for someone she knew, asked him what time it was. His answer: “I’m not Pat, but the time is 4 o’clock.” They started up a conversation, and the rest is history. In Ann he found his best friend, and together they made a home.
Scott was a proud father to Michael, Erica, and Andrew, and watching them become kind, capable adults was one of the great joys of his life. He was always there with advice, a listening ear, or a well-timed joke, and his children knew they could count on him. One of his proudest moments was walking his daughter Erica down the aisle. He was also bursting with pride when he watched his children graduate. Ask any of them, and they’ll tell you he gave the best advice, whether they wanted it or not.
Over the years, Scott held a variety of jobs, and wherever he worked he was known for his dedication and leadership. He brought laughter to the job, making long days go by faster.
Outside of work, Scott loved disc golf, flying drones, bow hunting, and cooking chili over a backyard fire pit. He also enjoyed building and repairing computers, watching sci-fi shows, stargazing, and had a deep love of music.
Fueled by Dr Pepper and a steady supply of sarcasm, Scott never missed a chance to crank up KMFDM. Above all, he gave his family his time, his humor, and his heart, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Williams; his children, Michael Williams (Jarred Buus), Erica Pechacek (Ryan Pechacek), and Andrew Williams (Heather Wolf); his grandson, Devin Wilcox (Dani Wilcox); his brother-in-law, Ricky Retterath (Marsha Retterath); his sisters-in-law, Jill Roche, April Munson (Mark Munson), and Lisa Mittag (Brian Mittag); his mother-in-law, June Retterath; his lifelong friend, Kevin Schmidt; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Sheloy Williams; his father-in-law, James Retterath; and his brother-in-law, Thad Hanson.
The family wishes to thank the Mayo Clinic medical team for the care and compassion they showed Scott and his family. Even in death, Scott gave the gift of life as an organ and tissue donor. The donation team has told the family that his generosity could save up to eight lives and improve the lives of as many as 50 additional people.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Todd Park in Austin. Casual attire is welcome. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
