Robert "Bob" Carl Hansen

Robert “Bob” Carl Hansen, age 95, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. He was born in Blooming Prairie Township on October 17, 1928, to Anhart and Ina (Hjelmen) Hansen. Bob graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1947. On October 8, 1950, he married his perfect match, Judith “Judy” Barkeim in Jackson County. 

Bob was a lifelong dairy and cattle farmer who loved the changing seasons and watching his crops grow. When he wasn’t tending to his farm, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, and gardening. Bob loved spending time in his barn with friends and family, creating many lasting memories. In his younger years, he was a Hall of Fame football player for Blooming Prairie’s Awesome Blossoms and a Golden Glove boxer. For much of his life, he was a member of Trinity Church in rural Blooming Prairie and in 2018, moved his membership to First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. His faith and the church were an important part of his life. Bob served on the Union Creamery Board and Prairie Manor Planning Board, contributing significantly to the region. His dedication to his family, community, and farm left a lasting impact. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Bob is survived by his wife Judy Hansen of Blooming Prairie; children, Brenda Thorpe of Owatonna, Joan (Dennis) Clark of Excelsior, Audrey (Rick) Horan of Ellendale, and Roland Hansen of Blooming Prairie; seven grandchildren, Khristine, Allen, Scott, Brad, Amanda, Melissa, and Emily; 13 great grandchildren, Shaily, Tasha, Ben, Zach, Allyson, Kash, Thora, Odin, Zoe, Ingrid, Cruz, Declan, and Everly; three great-great-grandchildren, Athena, Kyson and Landon; siblings, Karen Freiheit, Jim Hansen, Judy (Dave) Livingston, and Terry (Robin) Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Anhart and Ina Hansen; siblings, Eugene “Axel” Hansen, Carol Wright, Jeanette Underwood, Marie Seykora, Eileen Peterson, Helen Mehus, Ann Anderson, Dean Hansen and Gary Hansen.

A funeral service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. The visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Bixby, Minnesota. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
