Richard Olson

Richard Allen Olson, age 72 of Austin died Monday Nov 5 at Mayo Clinic St. Mary’s, Rochester. Dick was born November 14, 1947 to Robert and Ruth (Iverson) Olson. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. Following graduation Dick joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was in communications for the Army. Upon leaving the Army Dick attended Albert Lea Vo-Tech. He subsequently took a job with Hormel where he worked until retirement. Not long after retiring Dick realized he didn’t like just sitting around and took a job at Wal-Mart. Dick enjoyed Nascar, his granddaughters, Myshelay and Alyssa, and home improvement projects. Survivors included, his mother Ruth Olson, daughter Krista Olson, Austin, granddaughters Myshelay and Alyssa; sister Rosemary Wolfe, Mason City, IA, Brothers, Ronald (Dawn) Olson, Faribault, MN, Robert (Shirley) Olson, Austin, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Robert D. Olson and brother Rick Olson. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, November 12, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may call from 3-6 pm Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Cemetery in Preston.
