Richard Joseph Lang

Richard “Dick” Joseph Lang, age 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Dick was born on August 23, 1939, to Florence VonFedlt and Ray Gorman in Austin, Minnesota. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Herman Lang.

Dick spent his life serving people. At the age of 17, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge, he built, owned, and operated many businesses to include: Bobee Jo’s Bar, Lang Construction Company, Langskis Pawn Shop, The Alibi Inn, King Arther’s Bar, The Flame n Embers, and The Windrift Lounge. Dick also bought the Ace Hotel and converted it into an assisted living facility for individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Dick spent countless hours volunteering for the City of Austin as a member of the City Council and as the Mower County Commissioner. He was also the chairman of the DFL for 10 years, but he died a true Republican. Dick was a member of the Loyal Order of the Masonic Lodge with the York Rite Degree, Scottish Rite Degree, 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Osman Temple, and a member of the Oriental Band. Dick was the unsung hero of the East Side, providing people with a place to eat and a place to live. He would give the shirt off his back if he thought they needed it more than him.

Dick is survived by the love of his life, Patti of Austin, Minnesota; children, Mark (Kelly) Lang of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Bobee Jo (Derek) Hyland of Whitefish, Montana, Lorrie Lang-Wing of Austin, Minnesota, and Richelle Evangelista-Peddie of Delafield, Wisconsin; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Bob) Lang of Hawthorne, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence, Ray, Herman, and Sylvanious; his brother, Arnold Lang; his sister, Vera Ingersoll; and his daughter, Kimmy Lang.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 12:00-4:00 p.m., at Bobee Jo’s Bar, 435 10th St. NE, Austin, Minnesota. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
