Raymond "Ray" Eugene Goodew

Raymond Eugene Goodew, age 92, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, June 26, 2026. He was born on December 19, 1933, in Austin to Edward Goodew and Valyda (Eckert) Goodew. On March 5, 1954, Ray married the love of his life, Wilma “Billie” Koster. Together they shared 59 years of marriage before Billie’s death and built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, laughter, and love. They raised five children and made their home just south of Austin, where Ray lived the rest of his life. Ray served in the United States Navy and spent his working years as a lineman and electrician, later teaching for the IBEW electrical union. A teacher at heart, he was always ready to share what he knew, whether through stories, lessons, or the work of his hands. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a gifted woodworker and carver, and a man of strong faith who was active in his church. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and treasured great-grandfather. His family was one of his greatest joys, and he took seriously, and joyfully, the calling to guide, teach, tease, and love each generation that followed him. Those who knew Ray will remember his stories, his wit, and the twinkle in his eye when he was teasing someone. In Ray’s home, humor and prayer were served with every meal. He knew how to keep people laughing and how to make sure they knew they were loved.

Ray is survived by his children, Dan (Debbie) Goodew, Jeannie Goodew (Todd Johnson), Robert (Gayle) Goodew, Scott (Laurie) Goodew, and Sandy (Tony) Titus; his grandchildren, Mikey, Billie Jo, Phillip, Deana, Jacob, Katie, Danyel, Chris, Ashley, Alyssa, Tiffany, Jenny, and Aimee; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Valyda Goodew; his beloved wife, Billie; and his siblings, Carroll Goodew, Evelyn Fox, and Valyda Shada. Ray leaves behind a legacy of strong hands, deep faith, laughter, and a family shaped by his love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

The funeral service for Ray will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will take place two hours prior to the service. Ray will, of course, be the guest of honor. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Hoff Celebrations-Worlein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
