Randall "Randy" Edwin Qualey

Randall Edwin Qualey, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 12, 2026, of natural causes, due to a massive heart attack in June 2025. Born September 21, 1951, in Austin Minnesota, to Alden and Doris (Hage) Qualey. An Austin High School graduate, along with an associate’s degree from Austin Jr. College. Employed by Anderson Construction and Hage Construction. Along with his brother, Larry, co-owned Austin Tri Siding and eventually Windrift Restaurant and Lounge. Also, part-time firefighter with Austin Fire Department. Randy developed a strong work ethic at a young age, values that shaped his entire life. Those who knew Randy will remember his big heart, his humor and his cooking. He adored animals and supported the Humane Society, always believing every creature deserved kindness. He enjoyed collecting knives and guns, sharing corny jokes that never failed to get a laugh or a groan, and making an investment at the crap table. His annual winter get away was a highlight he looked forward to. A lifelong member of the NRA and American Legion. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. Randy's greatest joy, however, came from the people he loved.

He is survived by his partner of 26+ years, Ruth Schmidt; brothers, Phillip Qualey and Larry (Bethy) Qualey; sister, Cindy Ruble; four nieces and three nephews; Ruth’s children and three grandchildren; and his fur baby, Trixie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Cheryl Qualey; and brother-in-law, Steve Ruble.

Randy lived a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love. His presence will be deeply missed but his life story and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service for Randy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at the American Legion Post 91, 809 12th St. SW., Austin, MN 55912. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
