Norman Oliver Schwartz, age 100, of Eagan, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at New Prospective Senior Living in Eagan. Norman was born on November 3, 1923, in rural Dexter, Minnesota, to George and Elsie (Studer) Schwartz. He attended Elkton High School. After school he worked on a farm and at a meat locker in Sargeant. Norman enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19. He proudly served our country in World War II until his honorable discharge in December 1945. Norman married Muriel Dorothy Christofferson on November 9, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter. The couple was blessed with five children and were married for over 66 years. Shortly after their marriage, he started at Hormel Foods, where he worked for the next 38 years. Norman was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Austin and served the church in various capacities. He was active in garden club and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. He also enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, watching the MN Twins, woodworking, carving, and hunting and fishing. Norman loved spending time with his family.
Norman is survived by his children, Carol (Don) Jesness of Eagan, Minnesota, Ronnie (Patty) Schwartz of Eagan, Minnesota, Steve (Dellene) Schwartz of Cohasset, Minnesota, Cindy (Michael) Taylor of Oakdale, Minnesota, and Cathy (Kevin) Kruse of Garner, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; parents, George and Elsie; grandson, Tony Schwartz; and nine siblings.
