Myrtle Mae Reed, age 95, of Austin, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Primrose Retirement Community. Myrtle was born September 21, 1920 in Jackson, Minnesota to Elmer and Anna (Petersen) Kime. She moved with her family to Austin in 1922. Myrtle attended Austin High School through the 10th grade when she went to work at Hormel to help support her family during the Depression. Myrtle worked 43 years at Hormel in the Fresh Sausage Department and retired in September 1979. On January 17, 1942 she married Roger Reed and they had one son, Clayton. Myrtle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin. She was an avid fisherman who spent the majority of her vacations and retirement fishing walleyes in Manitoba where she won multiple Master Angler Awards. Myrtle also enjoyed watching the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers on television. Survivors include her son, Clayton (Stephanie), Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Travis (Christina), Jeffrey (Jessie); five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; three brothers; two sisters; her parents. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at a later date. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
