Michael David Hansen

Michael David Hansen, age 74, of Hayward, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. Mike was born on December 29, 1951, in Austin, Minnesota, to Richard and Sharlene (Ellison) Hansen. He graduated from Pacelli High School. Following graduation, he entered the United States Army on July 17, 1970, and served until his honorable discharge on March 6, 1972. On April 8, 1972, Mike was united in marriage to Debra Kay Nihart. He worked as a machinist for over 32 years at various companies. Mike was very active in the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and the Austin Area Amateur Radio Club, all in Austin. Mike and Debbie were snowbirds – they enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona.

Mike is survived by his wife, Debbie of Hayward; daughters, Julie (Gary) Wells of Albert Lea, and Janet Hansen of Coon Rapids; four grandchildren, Sarah Hansen of Hayward, Cody St. John of Albert Lea, Carla Garcia of Owatonna, and Dawson Youngberg of Askov, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Jayce, and Benson; four brothers, Craig Hansen of Austin, Bret (Mari) Hansen of Owatonna, Bart (Hope) Hansen of Waterville, Minnesota, and Wade Hansen of Owatonna; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Sharlene; maternal grandmother, Mildred Price; and paternal grandparents, Colette and Virtus Hansen.

Services are pending. Interment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Preston. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
