Michael Joseph Diaz, age 70, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, following a lengthy battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Michael was born on December 12, 1955, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Miguel and Norma Diaz.
Michael proudly served with the Rochester Police Reserves from 1981 to 1986 and as a part-time firefighter with the Austin Fire Department from 1993 to 2003. He also spent 27 years working at Steve's Pizza in Austin and later served for 18 years as Warehouse Manager at Channel One Food Bank in Rochester.
On August 7, 1999, Michael married the love of his life, Julie Carroll. Together they built a warm and loving home filled with family, laughter, and cherished memories.
Michael had a passion for NASCAR, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was easy to talk to and had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, with whom he shared a special bond. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring brother and uncle, and a loyal friend whose kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of so many.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Norma Diaz; his parents-in-law, John and Sandra Carroll; his sisters, Lisa Diaz and Joan Diaz; and his brother, Daniel Diaz.
He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Diaz; their children, Chelsea, Travis (Robyn), Justin (Nicole); his grandchildren, Jax, Axl, Tenzlyie, Alexis, Everhett, Bliss, Sawyer, Cohen, and Hannah; his brothers, Tony (MJ) Diaz and Rick (Nancy) Diaz; his sisters, Chris Whalen (Ed), Virginia Berg, and Lori Howard; his brother-in-law, Steven Carroll (Ellen); his sister-in-law, Terri (Brian) Cambern; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Michael's love for his family, generous heart, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A memorial service for Michael will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
