Marjorie Halverson, (nee Weber)

April 30, 1927 — November 2, 2019

Marjorie May (Hollerud) Halverson, (nee Weber), age 92, of Austin, MN passed away peacefully Saturday evening, November 2, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin, MN., surrounded by her loving family. Born April 30, 1927, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Rosie and Reinhold Weber. She attended Kindergarten to 8th grade in London, Minnesota, and graduated from Austin High School in 1945. After graduation, she married Norman Harold Hollerud of Lyle, Minnesota on June 24th, 1945, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. They were blessed with 6 children; Sandy, Dennis, Diana, Lana, Cindy and John. After her last child went to kindergarten, Marjorie worked at St. Olaf Hospital for many years, first in housekeeping, then as a nurse aid. In 1986, her husband, Norman, died suddenly on January 2. They had been married over 40 years and had raised 6 children. Margy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Some years later, in 1989, she married Ron Halverson, also from Lyle. Margy and Ronald enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Scottsdale Arizona during their early years together. She always loved to bake and was masterful at sewing and knitting. She had true artistic talent and made beautiful needlepoint creations, knit and crocheted beautiful afghans, as well creating truly amazing ceramic creations. She also loved her flower and vegetable gardens. Her gardens were impeccable and she canned and froze her vegetables and fruit throughout the years, and had an abundance of raspberries to share with her grandchildren. As time passed, Margy and Ron sold their house in Austin and moved into the Primrose Senior Community. They enjoyed it there, and traveled less but she still enjoyed visiting family and friends. In 2011, after a series of falls Margy moved to Comforcare where she was able to maintain her crocheting and visits with family. Margy was a lifetime member of St. Olaf Church. She taught her children the importance of fellowship in the faith. She enjoyed being an active member of her Circle Women's group, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and enjoyed volunteering at the St. Olaf booth at the Mower County fair. She served at funerals and functions with Circle #7. Every year for the Norwegian Scandinavian Festival she made the best potato lefsa. She truly taught her children to value family and friendship by her ways as well as her words. She also conveyed upon her children the value of education and music. Loving music herself, she once played the violin. It was her unselfish nature that provided above and beyond for her children. She was and will continue to be greatly loved and missed by all. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Comforcare and extend their gratitude for their loving care over the past 3207 days, and for treating their mother like family.
