Marianna Grimes

d. July 6, 2015

Marianna Agnes (Commorato) Grimes, affectionately known as “Nick’s little sister”, passed away Monday, July 6th, 2015, one month after her 97th birthday, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, MN. Marianna’s family came to Milwaukee, WI in 1913 from Chiusa Sclafani, Sicily. She was very proud of her Italian Heritage. Marianna was born June 6th, 1918, the youngest child of Francesco and Josephine (Gundusa Bilello) Commorato. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938. She attended 2 years of vocational training. Marianna worked for Cutler and Hammer of Milwaukee for 25 years. On October 24th, 1968, she was united in marriage to J. Finn Grimes, her childhood crush. After a honeymoon to Ireland, they resided in Greenfield, WI. When Finn passed away in 1974, Marianna moved to Austin to be closer to her brother Nick and his wife Marie. The 3 of them loved to entertain, garden and travel. Marianna worked as a seamstress for Drapery Services of Austin for 21 years until her retirement. In her younger years, Marianna loved to travel, both short and long distances, often just spur of the moment day or weekend trips with her niece Josephine. She enjoyed sewing, often making her own clothes. She also loved to dance and listen to music. She even had the opportunity to meet Liberace after a live performance at the dance hall. The last few months of her life, she was so very pleased with all the love and special care she received from the staff of Prairie Manor. She was very happy there and called all of you her Gems. Even though Finn and Marianna didn’t have children, she enjoyed her niece, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was adored by all who knew her. Mariana will always be remembered for her love of life, loving nature and her love to tease those close to her. She is survived by niece, Josephine (Commorato) Gallagher and her children, Christina, Patricia, Paul and Daniel, all of Milwaukee, WI, nephew, Jack (Mary) Cammarata and their children, Nick and Tony, all of Plymouth, MN, nephews John and James Cammarata both of Milwaukee, WI and “little lights of her life” Emma Jean Diez and Chasidy Sue Johnson, granddaughters of Wayne and Sue Diez, all of Austin. She was preceded in death by her Parents, husband Finn, Sister Rose and Brothers Jack, Nick and Tony. Blessed be her memory. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am, Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Mayer Funeral Home is entrusted with Marianna’s arrangements.
