Madaline Mary Burzinski

Madaline Mary Burzinski, age 100, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. Madaline was born February 24, 1926, in Rose Creek to William and Teresa (Ulwelling) Schammel. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minnesota. Madaline initially attended a small country school before transferring to a public school in Rose Creek. She was an exceptional student, earning straight A’s throughout her elementary and high school years. After high school Madaline was an air traffic controller for the U.S. Army during World War II.

Madaline married Richard “Dick” Anthony Burzinski on August 27, 1947, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek. The couple had four children.

Madaline was a loving wife and mother. She was a devout Catholic, an avid bridge player, accomplished gardener, and loved flowers and unique jewelry. She and Dick took the family on annual trips, and in their later years, the two of them wintered in California, making the cross-country drive from Minnesota part of the adventure.

Survivors include her children, Larry (Terri), Tom, and Mary (Wade); nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Teresa; husband, Richard; daughter, Diane Schmerler; and five siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Madaline will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with Father Andrew Beerman officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
