Lucy Chandy, lovingly known to everyone as “Big Grandma” or “Mae Pa,” passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 75 years old.
Lucy was one of five siblings, See Chandee, Ta Chanty, One Chandee, Phud Chanty, and Bun Jandee. She was preceded in death by her siblings See, Ta, One, and Phud. She was a devoted mother to her five children with Youth Mounboua, Chantom Chandee, Bounsy Chandy, Kham Chandy, Vandy Chandy, and Thavy Mounboua. Her legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to her life.
Lucy was one of the strongest, most free-spirited, caring, funny, and straightforward people you could ever meet. She was unapologetically herself — honest, unfiltered, and full of life. Those were the qualities we loved most about her. There was never a sad or dull moment when she was around. Family meant everything to her. She loved having her children, grandchildren, and relatives gathered around her. Being surrounded by family brought her the greatest happiness.
Her favorite hobbies included fishing, buying lottery scratch-off tickets, dancing, playing cards, listening to mor lam, and simply having a great time with the people she loved. Whether by the water with a fishing pole or enjoying music and laughter at a family gathering, Lucy lived fully and joyfully.
Her strength, humor, and deep love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
The pallbearers for Lucy’s funeral will be Tony, Antwan, Benjamin, Jadaven, Jaiden, Izaiah, and Sam.
The funeral service for Lucy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
