Lucille Evelyn Peterson

Lucille Evelyn Peterson, 99, was born on October 29, 1922, to Edward and Christina Mable Basness in Freeborn County. She passed from this life at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota on October 23, 2022.

Her childhood years were spent in Newry, Minnesota. When she was 13 years old the family moved their house to a farm near Blooming Prairie. Lucille attended a one room school through 8th grade and Blooming Prairie High School, graduating in 1940 as class valedictorian. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Church and was married to Thomas C. Peterson on October 6, 1940, at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. They were blessed with four children.

Except for living a short time in Iowa, Lucille lived her entire life in Blooming Prairie. She was a talented seamstress with an amazing sense of style evident in her dress, her home and her legendary eyewear. For several years she owned and operated Lucille’s Fabric Shop in Blooming Prairie. She was also a wonderful cook and baker and was happiest in her kitchen with rolling pin and flour sifter in hand turning out her wonderful pies, angel food cakes, doughnuts, cookies and the best English plum puddings. Lucille was an animal lover and when she moved to Prairie Manor she missed her pure black kitty, Middy. Special recognition should go to son John who was her loving primary caregiver before she moved to Prairie Manor.

Lucille is survived by her four children, Patricia Tueting, Salt Lake City, Utah, Carol (Phil) Bacon, Midway, Georgia, Thomas S. (Nancy) Peterson and John Peterson, Blooming Prairie. Survivors also include one sister, Jannie Strohschein, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her parents and two sisters, Eunice Coughlin and Doreen Bir, and son- in-law William Tueting.

A private family service is planned for Prairie Manor Chapel, Thursday, October 27, two days short of her 100th birthday. Memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church Ladies Quilting Fund. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
