Lucille Hanson

d. April 9, 2020

Lucille (Wagner) Hanson, age 86, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home. Born May 29, 1933 in rural Fillmore county to Eva (TerMaat) and Merville Wagner, she was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Austin in 1942 and following her graduation from Austin High School in 1951, she began a 15 year career in the accounting department at the Geo. A. Hormel Company. In 1965 Lucille married Robert M. Hanson and joined him as owners-operators of the Austin Floral Shop until their retirement in 1985. Lucille took great pride in personally servicing all of the weddings the shop provided flowers for. She made sure the aisle carpet was perfectly straight and all the corsages and boutonnieres were pinned on "just right" before the bride headed down the aisle. Lucille was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, WELCA, Friends of the Library, Hormel Historic Home, Paramount Theatre volunteers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was known for her impressive Santa collection and beautiful gardening skills. She also enjoyed traveling, bowling, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and visiting with her neighbors when walking her 4 legged companion, Muffy. Lucille will be affectionately remembered by her close long-time family friends, Toby and Jean Dick, their daughter and their 3 grandsons, with whom she shared many holidays and special occasions. Lucille is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She often spoke of the fond memories she had spending time at the Root farm with extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents; a sister and brother; and childhood to lifelong best friend, Peggy (Ryks) Olson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mayo Hospice staff and to Lucille’s niece, Bonnie and Merril Meier for all of their exceptional care and support. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a private graveside service was held. A Celebration of her life gathering will be announced and held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin, as well as the Mayo Clinic Hospice Program. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
