Loretta Marie Hillan, age 99, and a life long resident of Mower County, died July 1, 2010, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. She had been a Sacred Heart resident for less than one year after living at the Cedars for several years. Loretta was born August 12, 1910, to Katherine Wagner Christensen and Thomas Christensen on a farm near Austin. They as well as her sister, Irene Christensen Klatt and her brothers, Roy, Wilbur and Willis preceded her in death. Loretta graduated from Austin High School and, as a young woman, worked in the office of Judge Baudler at the Mower County Court House. In 1941, Loretta married Joseph E. Hillan who died in 1965. She was employed by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) office from which she retired in 1973. She then worked as a receptionist at Sacred Heart Care Center for many years. As volunteer in the community, Loretta enjoyed being part of the Red Cross and the Sacred Heart Care Center auxiliary. Loretta is survived by her daughter Patricia and son-in-law Gene McHugh, Minneapolis, Minnesota, her grandchildren Bridget and Megan Hillan of Seattle, Washington, and Patrick Hillan (Andrea) of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. She also is survived by her great granddaughters Therese of Seattle and Hannah and Clair of Peqout Lakes and three nephews. Her son Thomas Hillan and her grandson Brendan McHugh preceded her in death. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 pm on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
