Larry Dixon passed away on Wednesday, May 4th, at Austin Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born in Austin on November 27, 1956, to Roger and Ann Dixon. He attended Shaw School and graduated from Austin High in 1976. It wasn't long after graduating that Larry found his voice and followed his life-long passion of being a DJ. He continued his studies at the Austin Area Technical Institute and graduated in 1977 with a Certificate in Radio Announcing. In between private weddings and celebrations, Larry spun records at many Austin landmarks including the Loft, the Cavern and the Silver Bullet. Larry lived in Mesa, Arizona for awhile, but returned to Austin and his favorite occupation. Working at KAUS radio station until the fall of 2010, Larry kept in touch with the music industry that he loved. His quiet footprint not only touched those that heard him on the radio, but stretched to those that joined him at his regular haunts - Kenny's Oak Grill, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and was an active member of Meadow Greens Golf Course. Some years he celebrated the coming of spring by joining friends on the annual trek to Laughlin, Nevada. Other times he'd travel to his brother Dan's in South Carolina for a round or two of golf. , The Dixon family has a long-standing tradition of gathering at George's Pizza. As the Austin host, Larry would be there several times a week, accommodating visiting relatives - always with a calm and patient smile on his face. Larry's strong presence will be sorely missed. He supported those around him and made them feel better about themselves. The world is a better place because of the time Larry Dixon was in it. Larry is survived by his mother, Ann Dixon, of Austin; sister, Deb Dixon (Tambo), of Nevis, West Indies; brother, Dan Dixon (Denise), of Anderson, S. C.; sister-in-law Donna King (Leroy); and many beloved nephews and nieces. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Roger Dixon, brother, Randy Dixon~ anti nephew, Brandon Dixon. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 :00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14th, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Celebrating Larry's life will continue at the American Legion in Austin from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m..
