Kay Janice Miller

Kay Janice (Peterson) Miller, age 86, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. Kay was born June 4, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Marion and Gladys (Seavey) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1957.

Kay married James “Jim” Dean Miller on September 21, 1961, and together raised two daughters, Debbie and Sherry. Kay worked at the Austin Daily Herald for five years, served as a Country Club Manager for 16 years, and later worked at the Hormel Employee Credit Union for 18 years.

She was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin and was active in the altar guild and quilt club. Kay enjoyed dancing, entertaining, cooking, sewing, and spending time at their cabin on St. Olaf Lake with her family. She was part of a singles club for 10 years, a winter Texan in Mission, Texas since 2001, and loved going to Puerto Vallarta for 16 years. She treasured time with her many friends and never missed a good cup of coffee.

Kay will be remembered for her warmth, her energy, and the joy she brought to family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie (Philip) Murry and Sherry (Douglas) Bibus; grandchildren, Ashley (Brad) Miller, Alexandra (Brian) Miller, Taylor (Josh) Farm, Andrew (Aubree) Bibus, and Allison Bibus; great‑grandchildren, Wyatt, Beau, Jax, Brody, Morgan, Owen, Addie, Vivi, Ava, and Aiden; siblings, Kathleen Bussian, Galen (Dorothy) Peterson, Marvin Peterson, Bonnie (Calvin) Ripple, and Roger (Dawn) Peterson; and sisters‑in‑law, Mabel Peterson and Rae Ann Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim in 1999; brother, Daryl Peterson; brothers‑in‑law and sisters-in-law, Norman Bussian, Michael (Linda) Miller, Mary Meyer, Delorise Burdine, and Thomas Miller; and her partner of 18 years, Dale Nelson.

A funeral service for Kay will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
