Kathryn "Kady" Mary Roof

Kathryn “Kady” Mary Roof, age 64, of LeRoy, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2026. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time. Kady was born October 30, 1961, to Ronald and Sheila (Johnson) Roof in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in the St. Paul area, later living in Hastings and LeRoy, Minnesota. Kady was the GM of the GTI theatre (later Marcus) in Hastings and touched many lives while working there. Many of her former employees are still part of her life to this day. Kady married Steven Schlafge, with whom she had two children, Jyl and Alyxander. They later divorced. Throughout her life, Kady found joy in gardening, crafting, thrifting, collecting rocks, and spending time outdoors near rivers and boating. Above all, she cherished moments with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was a special soul who loved fiercely and was loved fiercely in return. She had an adventurous spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. She always said, "We’re a funny family." Her love, laughter, and spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.

Survivors include her mother, Sheila Schuman; children, Jyl (John Hatten) Schlafge and Alyxander (Krista Christiansen) Schlafge; grandchildren, Bradyn Hatten, Bryce Hatten, Rylee Schlafge, and Henry Schlafge; brothers, Ronnie (Kathy) Schuman, Wayne (Sue) Schuman, David Schuman, Kurt (Jean) Schuman, Aaron (Jennifer) Robinson, and Adam (Jen) Roof; sisters, Sheryl Carlson and Leigh-ann (David) Lighthall; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Roof; sister, Sue Aldrich; brother, John Schuman; brothers-in-law, Kurt Carlson and Rick Aldrich; sister-in-law, Darlene Schuman; nephew, Zach Schuman; and many friends.

We also want to thank the Mayo Hospice staff for all their care and who helped along this journey.

A celebration of life for Kady will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the American Legion Post 91, 809 12th St. SW., Austin, MN 55912. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
