Judith “Judy” Clarine Hansen, age 96, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield. Judy was born on February 24, 1929, in Jackson County, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Lakefield High School in 1948. Following high school, she worked at Wilson Foods doing clerical work. On October 8, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hansen in Jackson County. After the couple were married, she ended her career with Wilson Foods to begin her greatest journey of being a homemaker, farm wife, mother and later grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Judy was busy on the farm by helping with the cows and farm chores, cooking the meals, maintaining the home and caring for the kids. When she wasn’t busy at home she could be found at Trinity Lutheran Church assisting with WELCA and church circle groups, was a member of the Union Merry Makers Extension Club and volunteering with the Blooming Prairie Bombers 4-H Club. Judy and Bob were faithful members of Trinity Lutheran Church until 2018, when it closed, and they moved their membership to First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. In her later years, she enjoyed living a simple life and could be found in her rocker, reading her book, and looking out the window at the clouds and birds. Judy looked forward to the family's annual lefsa making day and was able to see this Norwegian tradition passed to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they learned the art of rolling and flipping lefsa.
Judy is survived by her children, Brenda Thorpe of Owatonna, Joan (Dennis) Clark of Excelsior, Audrey (Rick) Horan of Ellendale, and Roland Hansen of Blooming Prairie; seven grandchildren, Khristine, Allen, Scott, Brad, Amanda, Melissa, and Emily; 13 great grandchildren, Shaily, Tasha, Ben, Zach, Allyson, Kash, Thora, Odin, Zoe, Ingrid, Cruz, Declan, and Everly; five great-great-grandchildren, Athena, Kyson, Landon, Wyatt, and Finn; in-laws, Karen Freiheit, Judy (Dave) Livingston, and Terry (Robin) Hansen; and nephew, Kim (Rhonda) Lloyd; and several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Barkeim; husband, Bob Hansen in 2024; stillborn son; siblings, Orin Barkeim and Burdelle Lloyd; several sister and brother in laws and two nieces Louise and Linda.
A funeral service for Judy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. The visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Bixby, Minnesota.
