Joyce Smith

Joyce Ann (Graff)Smith, 83 of Austin, died Thursday Feb. 16, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin. She was born November 9, 1933 in Austin to Richard and Violet (Sistek) Graff. She grew up in Austin, where she graduated from Austin high school in 1951. On September 7, 1952 she married Ed Smith in Austin. The couple lived in Austin their entire lives. Together they raised 2 sons. Larry Smith who worked at Gerard academy and Rick Smith currently of New Prague, Mn. Early on Joyce worked at Diamond dollar. Later she worked at the Ellis middle school cafeteria for 17 years. Joyce enjoyed camping, cooking, baking, playing cards, and going out to eat with her friends. She loved visiting with and helping her many friends and neighbors. Even in her later years as her health was waning, she was always willing help anyone in need. Survivors include her husband, Ed Smith of Austin, son Rick Smith of New Prague, 8 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Larry, her parents Richard and Violet Graff, sister Darlene (Graff) Smith, aunts, uncles and cousins. The memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday Feb 21st, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. There will be a visitation 1 hour prior starting at 10am. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
