John Garvey

John D. Garvey, age 76, formerly of Austin, died Friday, November 15, 2019 at his home in Eden Prairie. John was born November 29, 1942 in Austin to Lambert and Lorretta Garvey. He grew up in Austin. John graduated from Pacelli High School in 1960 and St. Mary’s College in Winona in 1964. He subsequently obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. In 1966 John was united in marriage to Barbara Gerber at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams. He worked for IBM and retired after 42 years. John enjoyed playing tennis and poker, and was an avid bridge player and sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Garvey, Eden Prairie, MN; two daughters, Rachel Garvey Kelly, Natick, MA, Allison Garvey, Minneapolis, MN; two grandsons, Kenan and Jack; a sister, Sheila (George) Tichy, Hillsborough, CA; ten nieces; five nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Lorretta Garvey; a sister, Kay Garvey Dudycha; a brother-in-law, Richard Gerber. A prayer service will be held 11 am on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
