James Leo Urlick

James Leo Urlick, age 91, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Cedars of Austin. Jim was born on February 7, 1935, in Austin to Leo and Helen (Titus) Urlick. He graduated from Austin High School in 1953. In February of 1954, Jim entered the United States Army and served his country honorably until his discharge in February 1957. On his 24th birthday, in 1959, Jim was united in marriage to Eunice Erline Hammero at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. The couple was blessed with four children. That same year, Jim began his career for the City of Austin, working as a wastewater treatment plant operator for 35 years until his retirement in 1994. He also prepared income taxes for many Austin community members. Two of Jim’s favorite pastimes were fishing and golfing. He liked to garden and enjoyed family events, especially the time spent vacationing in Alexandria. He was a longtime member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and was a member of the Austin VFW and American Legion. He will be greatly missed by many.

Jim is survived by his children, Lori (Dan) VanBallegooyen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, James T. (Patty) Urlick of Chaska, John Urlick of Austin, and Dan Urlick of Austin; grandchildren, Lydia (Brett) Smith, Emily (Henry) Olson, Stacy (Kyle) Henriksen, Michael (Ashley) Urlick, Ryan (Anna) Urlick, and Joe (Ashley) Urlick; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Urlick; sisters-in-law, Marge Urlick, and Ann Cook; and brothers-in-law, Ernest Hammero, and Richard Hammero. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; parents, Leo and Helen; brother, William Urlick; sisters-in-law, Virginia Urlick, Doris Rice, and Marlene Hammero; and brother-in-law, Jerry Cook.

The memorial service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife, Eunice, at Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to the Children’s Leukemia Research Association. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
