James “Jim” Edward Miller, age 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at The Cedars Memory Care in Austin, Minnesota. Jim was born February 21, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota, to Ole and Grace Miller. He graduated from Austin High School in 1959 followed by Winona State University receiving a B.A. degree in Business. Jim shared 27 years of marriage with his late wife, Susan, and together had a son, Brett. He later was blessed with over 22 years of marriage to his late wife, Mary. In his final years, he was fortunate to find love and companionship with Joyce Anderson.
Jim worked as a National Sales Manager at Hormel, during which time he lived in various locations including St. Louis Park, MN; Orlando, FL; Chino, CA; Lenexa, KS and retired from Austin, MN. Upon retirement, his primary residence was in The Villages in Florida, with his late wife, Mary, where they would return to Austin, MN, during the spring and summer.
Jim enjoyed many activities, including playing basketball, dancing, skeet shooting, golfing, pickleball, motorcycling through-out the United States, working out at the YMCA, and playing in the Austin Shriners oriental band. He enjoyed several hobbies, including drawing, stained glass artistry, woodworking and restoring Harleys. He also had a love of dogs, which included show competitions with standard poodles. Jim loved spending time with family and friends, always showing great kindness and appreciation for others.
He will be missed by his son, Brett Miller and daughter-in-law, Deb; step-children, Kathie Upcraft, Mike Upcraft, Jane (Steve) Justice, and Sheila (Jim) Ondich; grandchildren, Jenessa (Brandon Ziegler) Miller, Amanda (Aaron) Ziegler, Cody Upcraft, Nate (Rachel) Justice, Steph (Tom) Aase, Colie Justice; eight great-grandchildren; and his companion, Joyce Anderson. He was preceded in death by his late wives, Susan Miller (Sondergaard) and Mary Miller (Upcraft); his parents, Ole and Grace Miller; and brother, Bruce Miller.
Jim made the generous decision to donate his body to the Mayo Clinic Body Donation Program to advance medical education and research.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to St. Croix Hospice or Shriner’s Children Hospital. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
