James "Jim" Brian Hansen

James “Jim” Brian Hansen, age 83, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System Austin.

Jim was born in Blooming Prairie Township on December 14, 1942, to Anhart and Ina Hansen. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1961. Jim married Patricia Marsolek on April 3, 1965, in Austin, Minnesota.

While Jim was in high school, he worked for Ditlevson Farms for one summer. He worked for Axel, his oldest brother, driving truck off and on for a couple of years. Jim worked at the Standard Station right out of high school, until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1965. Upon his return from military duties, he worked at Shawback Garage in Sargeant, Minnesota. Jim then opened his own business at the Standard Station in Blooming Prairie and continued for 38 ½ years. He retired in October of 2005. His nickname there was, “Silent Jim”! It was very fitting because he didn’t say a whole lot and preferred to just take it all in! After retirement, he worked part-time for Terry’s Repair in Owatonna and Darrick’s Preferred Auto in Blooming Prairie.

Jim raced stock cars for one year before going into the Army. He also enjoyed going to watch Terry race for many years. He loved to fish from a boat and to ice fish! His big passion was watching all sports on TV, especially Minnesota teams! Jim loved his family and his friends!

Jim is survived by his son, Brian James Hansen; siblings, Karen Freiheit, Judy (Dave) Livingston, Terry (Robin) Hansen; brother-in-law, Ron Marsolek; sisters-in-law, Judy Hansen and Lu Hansen; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Anhart and Ina Hansen; wife, Patricia “Pat” Hansen; siblings, Axel Hansen, Carol Wright, Robert Hansen, Jeanette Underwood, Marie Seykora, Eileen Peterson, Helen Mehus, Ann Anderson, Dean Hansen, and Gary Hansen.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
