Irene Elizabeth Schammel

Irene Elizabeth Schammel, age 94, of Rose Creek, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Cedar Lodge Assisted Living in Owatonna, surrounded by her immediate family.

Irene was born on February 9, 1932, to Adolph and Agnes (Schwartz) Brown. On May 20, 1950, she married Joseph Schammel, to whom she was happily married for 76 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work, raising seven children while making their home in Rose Creek.

While Irene briefly worked at Thill Implement in Rose Creek, her most important role was that of wife, mother, and homemaker. She took great pride in caring for her family and creating a warm and welcoming home. As her children grew, they spent countless hours watching ball games. Over the years of retirement, Joe and Irene enjoyed traveling together, which included trips to Florida, Arizona, and to see her daughter in Seattle. Irene found joy in a variety of hobbies including crocheting, sewing, painting, ceramics, and spending time with her family and friends.

Irene was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. Irene was also an accomplished golfer, and longtime member of Cedar River Golf Course. She enjoyed many successes on the golf course, recording multiple hole-in-ones, and winning numerous club championships throughout the years. Her love of the game was evident in the extensive collection of golf balls she accumulated, many of which are now displayed at Bunkie's Grill & Lounge in Blooming Prairie.

Family was the center of Irene's world. She cherished attending the sporting events, activities, and milestones of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether gathering for holidays, celebrations, or simple visits, Irene treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved. Her kindness, support, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Irene is survived by her husband, Joe; children, Robert Schammel, Jim (Kathy) Schammel, Rick (Debbie) Schammel, Jeff (Lori) Schammel, Randy (Ariyana) Schammel, Jean Schammel-Weyer, and Judy (Daryl) Hemann; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Deb Schammel; son-in-law, Allen Weyer; and brother, David Brown.
