Hugo E. Gomer, age 83, of Austin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his son and daughter-in-law's home in Two Harbors, Minnesota with his son at his side. Hugo was born May 13, 1928 in Rose Creek, Minnesota to Hugo C. and Ethel (Thompson) Gomer. He attended Austin High School and was an All State wrestler, a National Honor Society Student and an All Conference football player. On June 5, 1948 he was united in marriage to Ruth Laufle at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2005. Hugo worked for the Hormel Company for 46 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, going on family vacations and he was a Humane Society Humanitarian Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Gomer, Austin; a son, Larry (Linda) Gomer, Two Harbors; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Stubbs, Minneapolis, Ruth Miller, Minneapolis; a brother, Harold (Shirley) Gomer, Austin; brother-in-law, Gerald Laufle, Austin; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; step father; brother; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The casket bearers will be Arthur Gomer, Tyler Gomer, Emily Ness, Michael Melbostad, John Gartner, Paul Gartner. Special thanks to St. Mary's Hospice of Duluth and to Julie the Popcorn Lady.
