Gary Marvin Hollund, age 75, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 4, 2021. Gary was born to Marvin and Theresa (Weber) Hollund in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on November 18, 1945. He grew up in Wells, Minnesota and graduated from Wells High School in 1963. Gary served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He worked at Hormel Foods for five years. In 1973, he met the love of his life, Patricia Moore, on a blind date. The couple married in 1974 and were married for 46 1/2 years. Gary worked at Austin Electric and completed his apprenticeship and journeyman training and then became a Master Electrician. He did electrical work for five years, then started working for the Austin Public School District as the Master Electrician for 27 years. During that time, he also owned Hollund Electric. Gary liked to travel and ride his Goldwing. A few of his favorite places were Hawaii, Branson, Missouri, and Florida. He also enjoyed wintering in Arizona the past two winters. Gary had an incredible work ethic and after retiring, he obtained a Class A CDL and enjoyed helping his nephew farm during harvest. In his leisure time, he enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing Sudoku, and reading. His favorite thing to do was sit in his favorite spot, holding his three papillons on his lap. He loved his dogs; Rusty, Abby, Spike, Riley, and Hemi. All have passed over the rainbow bridge, and he often said, "that better be true." He also loved all of his grandpups and all dogs loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Hollund of Austin, MN; sons, Chuck (Cheri Fischer) Erickson of Rochester, MN, Mike (Kristine) Hollund of FL; daughters, Paula (Bob) Milne of Roseville, MN; Christine (Chris) Heyda of New Prague, MN; Pam Erickson of Red Wing, MN. Siblings include; Richard (Betty) Hollund of Wells, MN, Dan Hollund, and Diane (Steve) Whitney of St. James, MN. He is survived by many grandchildren. Dan (Jamie) Heyda, Sydney (Joe Wigham) Erickson, Lucas Erickson, Josh (Sarah) Johnson,Tony (Anna) Heyda, Mikayla (Joshua) Ruhland, Jake Hagen-Erickson, Nick Hagen-Erickson, Dawson Hollund, Jackson Hollund, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Theresa Hollund, and brother Ervin. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mower County Humane Society. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
