Everett E. Hays, 87 passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at his home in Austin, MN. He was born October 14, 1928, to Elton and Loretta (Graff) Hays. Everett attended Whittier Grade School prior to graduating from Austin High School in 1947. He furthered his education at the University of Denver where he studied art. He served three years in the US Army (Korean War) where he was a surveyor from April 1951 to May 1952. He worked in the retail business for many years in St. Paul and California. After moving back to Austin he met and later married Catherine Peterson (McGee) on February 7, 1969. Everett was a huge sports enthusiast so much so that he was one of the founders of the Austin Youth Basketball Association. He was also heavily involved with The Austin Youth Football Association and the Austin Softball Umpire Association. Many are familiar with his artwork, something he was extremely proud of. His best known works were his 1987 and 1991 Minnesota Twins World Series posters. He taught art classes through Community Ed, as well as at Pacelli High School. Many of his drawings are displayed throughout Austin. His greatest love was his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Loretta Hays; two brothers Richard Hays and Robert Hays and sister, Loretta Hays. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Katie) Hays; brother, David Hays, sister Ruth (Bob) O'Grady; children Randy (Amy) Peterson; Mary (Paul) Skifton; grandchildren, Josh (Shannon) Shatek, Nate Peterson, Jena (Nick) Feltis, Nicole Skifton, Matthew Skifton; great grandchildren, Lily Shatek and Wyatt Feltis. Nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call from 4-6 pm on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Military rites will be by American Legion Post #91 and V.F.W. Post #1216. A burial will be held with the immediate family in the Spring. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
