Everett Wayne DeYoung

Everett Wayne DeYoung, age 96, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at The Homestead at Rochester. Everett was born on July 17, 1930, in Dexter, Minnesota, to Ralph and Ina (Prickett) DeYoung. He attended Elkton School through the eighth grade. In 1951, Everett joined the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War and was discharged in 1955. After returning from the military, he met Shirley Bussell at the Pla-Mor Ballroom in Rochester, Minnesota and they were married on February 10, 1956. Everett worked for Weyerhaeuser in the maintenance department for 38 years before retiring in 1993. After retirement, he volunteered for the Mower County Historical Society and then was hired on staff. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin, Korean Veterans Club, VFW, and the American Legion, serving as Post Commander. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and traveling across the United States.

Everett is survived by his children, Debra (Gary Russell) DeYoung and Mark (Kelly) DeYoung; grandchildren, Andrea (Shane) Langenbrunner, Jillian DeYoung, Lisa (Ben) Bradley, Jon (Jen) DeYoung, Ryann DeYoung, and Marshal DeYoung; great-grandkids, Ian, Jack, Camryn, Coen, and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ina DeYoung; wife, Shirley DeYoung; three brothers; and four sisters.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Mayo Dialysis, Mayo Hospice, and The Homestead at Rochester for all the wonderful care they provided.

A funeral service for Everett will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Austin, Minnesota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Austin American Legion. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
