DEICK, ELMER B. Age 88. Elmer was born in Austin, MN on August 7, 1923 to Frank and Gertrude Deick. He passed away peacefully on December 18, 2011 at the Faribault Senior Living in Faribault, Minnesota. He was a Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church where he attended elementary and middle school. As a youth he was active in the local golden gloves boxing club. After graduating from Austin Senior High he worked a short time for Hormel's and then worked on the AL-Can Highway in Canada. He joined the Merchant Marines and served as a Chief Petty Officer during WWII. He married Julia (Judy) Adams on May 12th 1943. After leaving the service he and Judy spent a brief time in Wisconsin, returning to settle in Austin where he went back to work at the Hormel's Meat Packing Plant. He retired from Hormel's after 38 years at the age of 62. Elmer also worked part-time as a rural route mail carrier for 20 years. Besides being an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life he was a member of the Moose Club. He is survived by his loving wife Judy; 9 Children: Sheila (Perry) Laing of Marquette, MI; Brian (Carol) of Scottsdale, AZ; Linda (John) Estrem of Owatonna, MN; Alan (Beverly) of Stillwater, MN; Marvin (Sherry) of New Brighton, MN; Debra (Mike) Schrandt of Esko, MN; Jan (Amy) of Anchorage, AK; Lisa Tenhoff of Columbia Heights, MN; Dean (Marcia) of La Crosse, WI. 19 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchildren; brothers Richard and Gary, and sisters Shirley (Leo) Sayles and Nancy (John) Quinn. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Gertrude Deick, and sisters Florence Lenoch and Joyce Christensen. The Deick family wishes to thank the staff at the Faribault Senior Living and Hospice for the wonderful care and attention they provided for him. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in CalvaryCemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or Hospice are preferred. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.
