Donald Igou

Donald (Don) Anthony Igou, age 87, of Dexter, passed away on Monday September 16, 2019 at home. Don was born April 22, 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa to George and Alice (Honrath) Igou and the family later moved to Salem, SD where he met the love of his life, Geneva Bies. On January 22, 1952 he was united in marriage to Geneva at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem, SD. He was drafted that same year into the Korean War. Don farmed in South Dakota before he and Geneva and their family moved to their farm in Dexter, MN where they made their home the last 60+ years. Don was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Adams American Legion, Austin VFW, DAV and Eagles. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, gardening, and is well known for his legendary storytelling and card skills. He was beloved by his family and all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Geneva, Dexter MN; children, Dave (De) Igou, Austin MN, Deb (Vance) Erie, Dexter MN, Rick (Marcia) Igou, Dexter MN, Dan (Amy) Igou, San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a sister, Geri Steele, Kasson MN; 7 sisters-in-law; 3 brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather; brother, Jack Justice; and 4 brothers-in-law. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father James Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 pm wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 pm and also one hour before the Mass at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #146. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com
