Dayle William Goskesen

Dayle William Goskesen, 65, of Austin passed away at his home on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The youngest of six Children, Dayle was born on April 21st, 1960, to Quentin and Bernice Goskesen in Austin, Minnesota.

In 1982, Renae Wiste joined Dayle on a motorcycle ride to Cedar Falls, Iowa, along with his friend John and her sister Rhonda. What began as a simple ride quickly turned memorable when the group found themselves caught in an unexpected hailstorm. It was an early glimpse of the kind of journey ahead for Dayle and Renae, one that would include both sunshine and storms, always traveled side by side. The two were married on July 23, 1983, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Dayle worked for many years at Cybex International in Owatonna. He valued the friendships he built during his years at Cybex and also spoke fondly of the memories he shared with colleagues at PowerTeam OTC in Owatonna. After retiring, Dayle enjoyed the opportunity to spend more time doing the things he loved.

A devoted father, Dayle loved supporting his children in all they pursued. Over the years he could often be found driving Elizabeth and her teammates on the bus to swim meets and cheering them on from the stands, a hearty “Go Betsy!” heard throughout the facility. He shared many outdoor adventures with his son Logan, encouraging his interests in hunting and trapping. One of Dayle’s most memorable trips was traveling to Alaska with Logan, an experience he treasured and often spoke about.

When their children were younger, Dayle and Renae enjoyed taking family camping trips and attending bluegrass festivals together. Dayle’s love of bluegrass music stayed with him throughout the years.

In retirement, Dayle enjoyed baking and spending time fishing, both on the ice during the winter and on the lake in the warmer months.

Dayle especially loved being a grandfather and took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Michael will always remember the day the two of them took an unexpected ride through the ice on the four-wheeler into the lake. Vernon proudly learned to ride his bike without training wheels under Grandpa’s watchful eye and even earned a $5 reward for the accomplishment. Lakyn, the sweet girl who made him a grandpa for the first time was his special fishing buddy. Clara loved spending time at the kitchen table, Grandpa patiently teaching her a new craft and enjoying breakfast sandwiches only Grandpa could make. Lauren was his bright “technicolor dream coat blue-eyed girl.” Sheila loved riding again and again on the train Grandpa built. Alaina enjoyed spending time with Grandpa in his Tioga RV. He loved building and creating special things just for them. From a four-wheel pulled train to custom swing sets and sandboxes, Dayle was always willing to sketch out and build whatever his grandchildren dreamed up, including stuffed animal zoos and egg stands.

Dayle was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Bernice Goskesen; sister Ann Cook; father-in-law Dale Wiste; and brothers-in-law Raymond Wiste and Roger Wiste.

Dayle is survived by his wife, Renae Goskesen; children Elizabeth (Kendall) Christensen of Alden and Logan (Alicia) Goskesen of Austin; grandchildren Michael, Vernon, Lauren, Sheila and Alaina Christensen and Lakyn and Clara Goskesen; and in-laws Joan and Wayne Skov of Lyle. Siblings Nada (Daryl) Kilgore, Karen Bell, Lyle (Laraine) Goskesen, Roger (Peggy) Goskesen, in-laws Rhonda (John) DeVries, Lilly Wiste, and many nieces and nephews.
