Daryl Alan Champlin

Daryl Alan Champlin, age 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Austin on October 15, 1946, Daryl spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved.

Affectionately known as “Champ,” Daryl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He had a magnetic personality, a quick wit, and the kind of humor that could light up any room. Fiercely loyal and incredibly kind, Champ was always present, always listening, and always showing up for the people he loved.

He worked for many years as a foreman at Hormel. He was a hard worker and left a lasting impression. Even after retirement, Daryl enjoyed working part-time for Hy-Vee and Medicap Delivery. He genuinely enjoyed the work and built close friendships with his coworkers, many of whom adored him.

Outside of work, Champ had a deep love for the outdoors and for staying active. In his younger years, he proudly ran marathons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his friends. He especially loved sharing these moments with his grandkids—teaching them how to fish, exploring bike trails together, or simply enjoying a day at the campground. His energy was contagious, and his enthusiasm for nature left lasting memories for those lucky enough to join him on those adventures.

Champ had a sweet tooth and never passed up a chance to indulge in a treat — but more than the sweets, he loved the company. His favorite days were spent surrounded by family and friends, laughing, telling stories, playing games and enjoying life to the fullest.

Daryl is survived by his loving wife, Judy Champlin, and their daughter Lenise Arnold (Kevin). He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Urlick (Mike), Taylor Neeser, Isaac Arnold (Emily), and Ivy Arnold, and great-grandfather to Grace Ofstedahl, Landen Brown, Elsie Urlick, Crosby Urlick, and Harvey Urlick.

He is also survived by his siblings, Duane Champlin (Julie), Dave Wistrcill (Jan), Doug Champlin, and David Champlin.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ory Ann Champlin; and his nephew, Evan Champlin.

Daryl “Champ” Champlin will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of nature, his devotion to family, and the joy he found in everyday moments. He was truly one of a kind—and his legacy of strength, kindness, and humor will live on through all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Daryl’s life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Austin Country Club.
