Darrell Jacobson, age 88, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at United Hospital in Saint Paul, after sustaining a heart attack on Friday. Darrell Robert Jacobson was born in Blooming Prairie Township on the Jacobson family homestead on July 6, 1934. He was the son of Edmund and Anna (Nelson) Jacobson. He attended District 85 school through the 8th grade but was not offered the option of attending high school or the military. This permitted him to not only pursue his love of farming the homestead at a young age, but also to meet the love of his life, Ramona Johnson, on a blind date in 1953. Darrell and Ramona were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, MN on August 25, 1956, and they were fortunate to celebrate 66 years of marriage in 2022.
Darrell milked cows from the time he could grasp an udder until he retired from dairy farming in 1993. He made sure to pass along his strong work ethic and love of the farm to his sons. After selling the cows, he worked in Owatonna until 2008 when he retired at the tender age of 74. He loved all of his jobs there and would regale his family endlessly with stories about his experiences. He especially loved fishing trips to Rainy Lake. He and Ramona also traveled to Branson, Nashville, and Alaska. In 2018, Darrell and Ramona moved to town and lived among their dearest lifelong friends. Tuesday morning coffee with the guys became a sacred ritual to Darrell. He was a long-standing member of Trinity Lutheran and later First Lutheran Churches of Blooming Prairie. He was never much of a joiner when it came to boards and committees, choosing instead to be the best farmer he could be. In that endeavor, he succeeded greatly and also managed to be the best father and role model a boy could ever hope for.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Ramona; three sons, Dale (Barb) Jacobson of Owatonna, Gary Jacobson of Blooming Prairie, and Alan (Avis) Jacobson of Sartell, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Steven, Stacy, Alex, Krista, and Andy; seven great-grandchildren, Riley, Brooklyn, Kaylee, Mason, Nolan, Kaden, and Serenity; brothers-in-law, Willard (Diane) Johnson of Aurora, CO, and David (Tami) Johnson of Frostproof, FL; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mark; and his sister, Elaine (Dick) Klemmensen.
