Claribel Baker, age 91, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin. She was born June 9, 1932, to Reuben and Ruth (Eckert) Thatcher in Otranto, Iowa. When she was nine years old, Clara’s family moved to Austin, Minnesota, where she attended high school. She was united in marriage to August Baker and enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage before his death in 1997. Clara worked as a waitress for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, going on walks, or in her later years, strolling around town on her scooter. Her love for nature, animals, and especially dogs, enriched her days.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Lea Wilson of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and Ellen Ruth (wife of Corwyn) Theobold of Austin, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Ruth Thatcher; and her husband, August Baker.
