Bryce Pons Shimmon

Bryce Pons Shimmon, age 88, of Fridley, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River. Bryce was born on September 9, 1937, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to George and Clara (Lange) Shimmon. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in music with a minor in mathematics/physics from Mankato State University. While attending MSU, he met the love of his life, Marcella Watkins. They were married on August 25, 1960, beginning six decades of life together. Bryce built a professional career in radio and computer technology for the US Fish & Wildlife Service, which suited his enthusiasm for innovation. He had a lifelong fascination with emerging technology, owned and flew his own plane and was often among the first to purchase the newest advancements, including a microwave oven, EV lawn equipment, the Apple Watch, and numerous electric automobiles.

Faith and family were cornerstones of Bryce’s life, and he enthusiastically studied God’s Word as a longtime member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church, where he offered his musical gifts playing the cello. After retiring in 2004, he kept his mind alert by studying German for many years, even reading the Bible in German. He was a devoted husband and father to his two daughters, offering wisdom, humor and steadfast support. He treasured the close relationships he shared with brother-in-law, David and sister-in-law, Sharry, whose love and friendship meant so much to him throughout the years. Bryce cherished time spent with his family, especially summers working in the Watkins’ Cheese Curd Stand in and around Marcella’s hometown of Austin, Minnesota. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, generosity and his unwavering faith in God.

Bryce is survived by his two daughters, Barbara (Michael Brenneman) Shimmon, of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and Lydia (Chris) Scheiber of Anoka, Minnesota; grandchildren, Joshua and Ethan; brother-in-law, David (Sharry) Watkins, of Austin, Minnesota; and a cherished nephew and nieces. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Marcella; his parents; and his sister, Julie Rasmussen.

A private burial for Bryce will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota, on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
