D. William "Bill" Lage, age 86, of Austin, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center. Bill was born December 3, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska to David Peter and Ella Margaret (Paulsen) Lage. He graduated from Central High School. On March 30, 1948 he married Marilyn Emily Schonlau in Omaha. Bill served in the United States Air Corps. He was a B-17 pilot stationed in Foggia, Italy. Bill taught Industrial Arts (Sheet Metal) and Drivers Education at Austin High School for 30 years, and Sheet Metal Apprenticeships for adults for 30 years. He was a member of the Austin Model Airplane Club, the Austin Country Club, Adults with Special Needs and ROAR. He was an avid golfer, built and flew RC model airplanes, made stained glass lamps and furniture. Above all Bill was a devoted family man. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn (Schonlau) Lage, Austin; children, Barbara Butorac (Lage) and husband, Jack, Louisville, KY, Patty Lage-Hiltz and husband, Tim, Falmouth, ME, Kristine Wedl (Lage) and husband, Dave, Caledonia, Katharine Mach (Lage) and husband, Terry, Rochester, David Lage and wife, Nancy, St. Paul; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Ella Lage; brothers, Bob and David; sister, Betty; twin sister, Darlene, all of Omaha, NE. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:00 pm wake serivce on Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 pm. Military rites will be by American Legion Post #91.
