With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara “Barb” Gayle (Ryan) Hage on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Austin on June 28, 1947, to George and Edith (Jahn) Ryan, Barb spent most of her life in the Austin community. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was known for her love of family, outgoing personality and kindness to everyone she met.
Barb attended St. Augustine Grade School and Pacelli High School in Austin. She went on to earn a degree in cosmetology and spent much of her working career as a hairdresser. She took great pride in her family and her long-standing friendships. Barb was always up for a shopping trip, lunch or cocktail to spend time with those she loved. She lived life to the fullest!
Barb spent countless hours making crafts and selecting thoughtful gifts for her grandchildren and friends and was one of the best party planners around, leaving no detail unattended. She made numerous trips between Austin and Chicago to visit her grandchildren, never missing a sporting event, dance recital or birthday when she was healthy.
Barb is survived by her children, Jeff Ryan of Austin and Kristin (Hage) Hartman of Western Springs, Illinois; her son-in-law, Kirt Hartman; and three grandchildren whom she adored, Luke (16), Kaitlyn (14) and Brooke (12). She is also survived by her sister, Carol Medo of Plymouth, Minnesota; and five nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, George Ryan and Edith Ryan (Jahn); and her sisters, Joan (Don) Urlich, Sharon (Dale) Berg, Patricia Macek and Sheila Ryan.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held in Spring 2026. Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes of Austin are assisting the family with arrangements.
