Anthony “Tony” James Haney
Tony passed away unexpectedly, from cardiac arrest at home May 13, 2026.
He was born August 9, 1961 in Waterloo, Iowa. Graduated from Austin High School in 1980.
Tony loved nature, hunting and fishing with his best friend and dad and his brother Scott.
He lived in Alaska, worked on a crab boat, fished for halibut and salmon. Tony loved watching the Minnesota Vikings and old westerns with his Dad. Tony and his Dad have a very special relationship and basically inseparable for years. Ken will miss him dearly!
Tony worked at Quality Pork for 25 years until he retired. Tony received multiple awards for perfect attendance and he was so proud of that. Never missing a day of work in 25 years is an amazing achievement and Tony should be proud!
EVERYONE who met Tony loved him. He had a great sense of humor and made people laugh with his quick wit and funny vocabulary. He was sweet, helpful and made strangers become fast friends. Genuine down to earth guy with great big hugs and beautiful blue eyes.
Tony loved to visit his mom at Sacred Heart and bring her Diet Coke and strawberry smoothies. He was well known by the staff and residents and made a lasting impression on them. They were all shocked and so sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed!
Our hearts are broken! Tony is survived by his parents and best friends Kenneth and Marlys, Sisters Tammi (Ron), Kimberly, Natalie (Roger), brother Scott (Holly), Aunt/Godmother Sister JoAnn Haney OSF, Niece Lexi (Alex), Nephew Zachary (Amber) and kids, Niece Cassy (Tatum) and kids, Nephew Kris (Jessica) and kids, Nephew Kevin and many other relatives and friends who will miss this wonderful man.
A memorial mass in Anthony's name will be held at 10:30 on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Sacred Heart Care Center in their new chapel in Austin with Father Thein Nguyen officiating. A gathering will follow the mass at the chapel. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes is assisting the family.
