Douglas "Doug" Winter

Douglas “Doug” Frank Winter, age 71 of Ellendale, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at his home. Doug was born January 28, 1948 in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Arllette (Staldorf) Winter. He went to high school in Janesville, Minnesota, and graduated with the class of 1967. On August 3, 1968, Doug was united in marriage to Shirley Volkmann in Elysian, Minnesota. This union was blessed with 3 sons. Doug enlisted into the United States Army. After his tour of duty in 1970, the couple moved to Faribault. Then for 5 years the family lived in Warsaw before moving back to Faribault in 1978 until 2008.  After Faribault, they moved to Blooming Prairie, and had spent the past 2 years in Ellendale.  Doug worked as a self-employed landscaper most his life. He liked fixing things, working on vehicles, and building bird houses. He also enjoyed putting puzzles together, and loved watching enduro racing, country western shows, and PT 109. He treasured his family and their time together.  They will miss him dearly.

Doug is survived by his two sons, Robert Winter of Waseca and Joseph Winter Sr. of Faribault; 4 grandchildren, Joe, Jr. (Nicollette) Winter of Zimmerman; Klarissa and Dallas Winter of Ellendale, and Michael Winter of Waseca; two great grandchildren, Carter and Rydan Winter; 2 brothers, Darwin (Penny) Winter of Lake Crystal, Dave Winter of Faribault.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Arllette Winter; wife, Shirley in 2017; a child at birth; and his son, Danny Winter in 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at a later date in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Elysian, Minnesota. Military honors by the Blooming Prairie Honor Guard. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
