Obituary
LuVerne Allen Roberts, age 85, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Tuesday January 17, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society, St. Ansgar, Iowa. He was born October 7, 1926 in Lyle Township, Mower County, Minnesota to Merlin and Emma (Johnson) Roberts. He attended Ames Country School and then graduated from Austin High School in 1945. LuVerne married Velmajean Kvale on November 19, 1946 at London Lutheran Church. They farmed for a time in Lyle Township before moving to Mitchell County, Iowa where they farmed for 48 years. Velmajean passed away on August 2, 1999. An active member of Mona Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, LuVerne enjoyed going on outings and spending time with his family. He truly loved his 16 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy (John) Mickelson of Austin; Karen (Donald) Whalen of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Linda (Terry) Mayer of St. Ansgar, Iowa; one son, Dale (Kathy) Roberts of Rockwell, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velmajean; his parents Merlin and Emma Roberts, one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at Mona Lutheran Church with Pastor Lydia Mittag officiating. Friends and family may call from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday January 22 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle. Casket bearers are Jeffrey Whalen, Steven Thome, Bradley Mayer, Darrel Thome, Craig Whalen, Todd Blood, Bryan Mayer, Jonathan Roberts, and James Roberts.
